2025 Brain-Computer Interface (BCI)-Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Summit & Global Launch Ceremony of the First Customized BCI-MRI Platform Held in Tianjin

2026-02-12

On October 18, 2025, the 2025 Brain-Computer Interface (BCI)-Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Summit & Global Launch Ceremony of the First Customized BCI-MRI Platform were grandly held at the Haihe Laboratory of Brain-Computer Interaction and Human-Machine Integration.

At the ceremony, key leaders from research institutions, clinical hospitals, and leading enterprises—including United Imaging Healthcare, Tianjin University, Peking University, Tsinghua University, State Key Laboratory of Advanced Medical Materials and Medical Devices, the Haihe Laboratory, the Tianjin Binhai High-Tech Zone, Tianjin University Tianjin Hospital, Tianjin Huanhu Hospital, and Tianjin Fifth Central Hospital—jointly launched the "ShenGong-ShenGuan" Customized BCI-MRI Platform.

According to Professor Fan Qiuyun, Chief Scientist of the platform, National-Level Young Talent, and Deputy Dean of Medical School of Tianjin University, the "ShenGong-ShenGuan" platform was developed under the support of the National Key Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology. It integrates multi-modal fusion of light, sound, electricity, and magnetism, achieving synchronous collaboration between "observation" and "intervention" in brain research. This provides researchers with more three-dimensional and dynamic perspectives, opening up new technological pathways for brain science.

As the core support of the platform, the custom-built MRI device for brain-reading—independently developed by the team—boasts the world's highest gradient magnetic field and high-order dynamic shimming. Leveraging ultra-high gradient performance and ultra-fast gradient switching rates, it enables faster brain function imaging and higher temporal resolution, capturing finer brain intention signals.

Ming Dong, Vice President of Tianjin University and Director of the Haihe Laboratory, and Zhang Qiang, Chairman and Co-CEO of United Imaging Healthcare and Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Medical Materials and Medical Devices, unveiled the proprietary high-performance MRI equipment for the Haihe Laboratory on behalf of both parties.

Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Nanjing University Committee, Vice President Zheng Hairong stated that the completion of this customized brain-computer interaction magnetic resonance platform has broken through the functional limitations of traditional devices, providing not only a brand-new tool for clinical diagnosis and treatment but also a more efficient technological carrier for basic research in brain science, which will accelerate the transition of brain-computer interfaces from laboratories to industrial applications.
